To celebrate World Book Day on Thursday 2 March, Watford MP Richard Harrington launched a poetry competition a month ago.
Local schools were invited to take part and you had to be aged between 11 and 14 to enter. The theme was Watford!
Hundred of entries were received and the shortlist has now been announced. The winner will be decided by a public vote and they will receive prizes including tea in Parliament with their family, and book vouchers!

The Finalists are:
Watford by Oliver Dunn from Watford Grammar School for Boys
Watford has a station,
Which was a very useful creation.
It also has a high street,
Where lots of friends can meet.
Watford has grammar schools,
Providing kids with essential life tools.
People often visit Intu,
To buy gifts just for you.
Watford also has many parks,
Where people often exchange laughs.
One of these parks has a new band stand,
Where I can read this poem which I wrote and planned.
Watford by Joseph Bailey from Watford Boys Grammar School
Watford is great,
Cassiobury too,
And if you come here,
You can be sure we will welcome you!
Intu is amazing,
The town centre too,
But have I even mentioned,
We also have a VUE.
The football team is great,
The club shop too,
Troy Deeney scores the goals,
And Niang who’s new.
The fans are loud,
Especially when we score,
But when we win,
I assure you we hear a great roar.
We also own the Grove,
Many celebrities there,
Football teams go there,
And the man that made Obama Care.
Overall Watford is great,
It has great education,
And if you come here,
It will be a very special occasion!
Alice in Watfordland by Anisha Mehta from Watford Girls Grammar School
And Alice jumps –
To Watford from Wonderland.
Now she is real, no longer mere imagination
In disbelief, she pinches (and hurts) her hand
Delighted, she swaps her blue and white dress,
For a uniform navy and yellowy ‘gold’,
Picks up her books and waits for the bus,
And so to the grammar school she is enrolled.
She is new, and feels as if she has taken a sip
Out of the bottle which makes you small
But as each year goes by she’ll have some cake
So by the time she leaves she will be strong and tall.
Watford by Elly Walsh from St Michael's Catholic High School
Lots to do
From shopping, ice skating and more!
Although sometimes the weather can be a bore!
Cheering all around,
Travelling to the football grounds.
This time we will win!
People strolling around the park,
Having a laugh,
Enjoying the summer sun.
Families driving their kids to school,
Getting a good start to the day.
I'll see you later on today!
As the sun goes out,
and the snow falls through
The Christmas lights appear,
and Santa is near...
