Richard Harrington, MP for Watford, has welcomed the news that two new schools have been approved for Watford: WHCFST Ascot Road Community Free School and WHCFST Watford Town Community Free School.
The schools are two of the 102 new ‘free schools’ approved by Ministers to open across England from September 2014 and beyond. The two schools, one on Hempstead Road and the other on Ascot Road will provide much needed new places and are both 2 form entry.
The schools are being established by the Hertfordshire Community Free School Trust.
Richard Harrington said:
‘I am delighted that this Government are further investing in Watford with these new schools being approved.
‘Providing good local schools is vital to our town’s future and these new schools will make a real difference to local school children and families.
‘ We have many great schools in the town and these new schools, under this free school model, will only enhance this and give parents and children an even greater choice.’
Education Secretary Michael Gove said:
‘There are many innovators in local communities set on raising standards of education for their children. I am delighted to approve so many of their high-quality plans to open a free school.
‘Free schools are extremely popular with parents and are delivering strong discipline and teaching excellence across the country.’
