Watford MP Richard Harrington has welcomed the announcement made by the Chancellor of the Exchequer today, that the proposed increase in Fuel prices in August will not go ahead and further committed that prices would not rise again.
The announcement follows representations made by Richard and other MPs on behalf of constituents who opposed the proposed rise and the damaging effect it was having on the cost of living.
Regular price hikes were introduced by the previous Government and in these times of austerity this Government has not allowed these prices rises over recent months, to help individuals, families and businesses who rely on transportation and are already struggling with the cost of living.
This Government is also going further to ensure that petrol companies act more responsibly and have issued a deadline that such companies introduce measures that mean the rising cost of crude oil is not passed on to customers at the pump.
Richard said:
“ I am very pleased that the Chancellor has made this commitment today, in response to the representations that I and other MPs have made to him and the Treasury calling for prices to be frozen.
“ Fuel prices are of real concern to both families and businesses in Watford, for whom using their car is a necessity and not a luxury and I have made my position on this clear to the Chancellor.
“Today’s announcement shows that this Government is listening to the needs and concerns of hardworking people in my constituency and I welcome the further work the Government is committed to in tackling the huge mark up that petrol companies impose on customers.”
