Watford MP Richard Harrington asked the Prison's Minister Crispin Blunt about what the Governmnet is doing to promote work in prisons.
The Minister responded that the Government had made good progress in creating longer prisoner working weeks, as well as setting up a Business Advisory GRoup to give gudance on reaching the best outcomes for the prisoners and organisations involved.
Richard said:
"I felt it very important to ask this question and I am pleased with the response from the Minister. Work in prisons often has a massive impact on rhabilitation and re-offending rates.
If a prisoner has worked during their time in prison, they are better prepared for life outside prison and are therefore less likely to re-offend. Of course it is also important to ensure that any such work is well managed and does not come at the cost of jobs for the hard working jobseekers in Watford"
