The third Watford Jobs Fair organised by Watford MP saw over 4,000 people attend to look for jobs, apprenticeships and advice from the 60 local companies exhibiting on the day.
Taking place on Thursday 27th June, the Fair was organised to help those looking for work and support find opportunities with local employers, and to help those companies recruit staff.
Throughout the day a steady stream of jobseekers attended to speak with companies and attend seminars aimed at specific groups of jobseekers.
People of all ages attended, from 16 to 65, eager to gain skills and learn about jobs and apprenticeships that were on offer. Richard welcomed over 60 companies, ranging from National Lottery operator, Camelot, to Hilton Worldwide to the Watford FC Trust.
Richard Harrington said:
“I was pleased that so many people turned up to make the most of the opportunities that were on offer on the day.
“Helping people find jobs and supporting local businesses has been a major priority of mine since becoming MP as it is so crucial to the whole community and local economy.
“I am hopeful that everyone who attended the Fair was able to find something they needed, learned valuable skills and gained in confidence to help them find work.
“The Fair was a real community effort and could not have been achieved without the support and help of Camelot, Watford Job Centre Plus, the National Apprenticeship Service and West Herts College. In addition I am very grateful for all the companies, organisations and volunteers who were so instrumental in making the event a success.
“I was particularly pleased when one jobseeker came up to me at the Fair to say that she had found employment after 5 years out of work. I will be following up with the companies and jobseekers that attended to find out how many people found employment and will continue to support those that are still looking.”
Julian Price, Head Of Corporate Responsibility at Camelot, said: "As a Watford-based business, we are delighted to have supported the Watford Jobs Fair for the third year running. We are committed to playing our part to help tackle the national issue of unemployment, in particular youth unemployment, and believe that this type of event is vital in helping to address this."
