My Plan for Watford

Since 2010, I’ve been working hard to tackle the problems we face and to make our area an even better place to work, live and raise a family. There’s been a lot of progress, with increased investment, unemployment falling, and thousands of jobs created. But I know there is more that needs to be done.

So I have been working to deliver my 5 point plan for Watford.

 Maintain Watford’s Job Growth

Since 2010, the number of unemployment people in Watford has halved and is at the lowest level for a decade. To  help more people into work I will continue to hold my annual Jobs Fair and help local businesses grow and create jobs.

Secure More Funding for School Places

Over £60 million is being invested in local schools; improving facilities, opening new schools and creating over 3500 new places. I’m pushing for more investment to ensure Watford's schools are equipped and prepared for the future.

 Invest in Watford Junction

Watford Junction is a key transport hub. Footfall at our station there has doubled in the last 10 years, and so it needs to be upgraded and ready to meet demand.

 Back Apprenticeships and Skills training

Since 2010, close to 5,000 apprentices have started in Watford. Helping young people prepare for their career is a sound investment in their future. I am now encouraging even more businesses to take on apprentices and showing them the Government help available.

 Redevelop Watford General

Investment in our hospital is gaining pace after Government funds for 5 new wards, 2 new units and the link road were secured. Now I will be pushing for the next phase of plans, which are currently being developed by NHS staff following the announcement that West Herts Hospital Trust will receive £400 million.
