In a letter to Herts Valleys CCG, Richard Harrington MP argues that a new GP surgery will be needed along St Albans Road, as plans to redevelop the train station and surrounding area progress.

On Tuesday 11th March, Watford MP Richard Harrington announced plans to work with Herts Valleys Clinical Commissioning Group (HVCCG) and developers to ensure that the proper infrastructure is in place to support the redevelopment of North Watford, known as the St Albans Quarter.

Mr Harrington is working closely with the Government and Watford Council to transform Watford Junction into a key transport hub, fit for the 21st century. Current plans, backed by the Government, will create a second exit into the station via a passenger bridge, as well as a new ticket office.

Redeveloping Watford Junction is also linked to the £1.6 billion regeneration of the surrounding area, creating much needed new homes. Crucially, 25% of the development will be available for affordable and social rent, with an element of shared ownership too.

The GS8 St Albans Road development of one, two and three-bedroom properties, comprising of four buildings that range from three to 11 storeys, currently includes 330 sqm of commercial space, and 16 car parking spaces. Richard Harrington would like to see a commitment to build a GP surgery too.

The Watford MP wrote “I strongly support the provision of a new GP surgery in the St Albans Quarter in North Watford. I have discussed this in a meeting with the developers and they are very keen to explore the option of accommodating a GP surgery to help meet the inevitable increase on demand.”
